Raju Modhwadia

Raju Modhwadia was stabbed in Evington Road, Leicester in the early hours of 27 December 2021.

Five men  were tried for his murder but acquitted after no evidence was offered.

He was stabbed in Evington Road at the junction with Hamilton Street around 12.30am and taken to hospital, but died soon after at around 1am.

It was determined that he had earlier been to a gathering in Hamilton Street, near the junction with St Albans Road on Boxing Day 2021.

Five people were arrested soon after:

1. 32-year-old Man. Arrested 28 December 2021. Charged with murder.
2. 33-year-old Man. Arrested 28 December 2021. Charged with murder.
3. 35-year-old Man. Arrested 28 December 2021.
4. 61-year-old Woman. Arrested 29 December 2021.
5. 41-year-old man. Arrested 1 January 2022.

However, by the time of the trial in May 2022, five men were charged:

1. 36-year-old Man of Hamilton Street, Leicester. Charged 7 April 2022.
2. 26-year-old Man of Chandos Street, Leicester. Charged 7 April 2022. 
3. 33-year-old Man of Westmeath Avenue, Leicester. Charged 7 April 2022.
4. 33-year-old Man of Bassett Street, Leicester.
5. 32-year-old Man of Morpeth Avenue, Leicester.

However, all the charges were dropped after the Crown Prosecution Service said that they didn't believe there was sufficient evidence to go to trial. When the judge discharged the men, he said to members of the public gallery:

The police appealed for anyone that had been in the area or might have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to come forward.
