The body of a newly-born male child was found on the foreshore at Purfleet.
It was said to have been about 24 hours old
The cause of death was given as a fractured skull that had been caused before the child had been put in the water.
The Coroner said that there was little doubt that it was a case of homicide.
The Coroner noted that the police had been unable to trace the mother.
An open verdict was returned.
