Ruth Browett was found dead with injuries at the Leicester City Mental Hospital.
Her post-mortem showed that she had six fractured ribs which had been caused some time before.
It was heard that she was an interfering patient who would tantalise others by snatching their food from them and that she often had to be put in a padded room.
42 nurses were interrogated as to the cause of her injuries, but none could state how her injuries had been caused.
The Coroner said that he would not draw any inference on how her injuries had been caused as that would not be fair and concluded that the matter should remain open and an open verdict was returned.
