William Redmayne Knipe was found drowned.
William Knipe was from Dunster Avenue in Rochdale and had been missing for nine days when he was found in the River Roach. He had left home on 6 October 1906 to go to Manchester and had been expected home that night.
It was thought that his body had been washed down from Rochdale to Heywood where it was found. He was a well-known gentleman and a commission agent.
It was a mystery how he got in the river but he had two severe wounds on his head.
An open verdict was recorded and the matter handed over to the police.
