Place: Clayton-le-Moors and Great Harwood Sewage Works
The body of a newly born female child was found in a tank at Clayton-le-Moors and Great Harwood sewage works on Wednesday 23 January 1924.
It was thought that it had been in the sewer for three or four weeks and was partly decomposed.
The doctor that examined the child said that the external appearance of the body didn't suggest violence before death.
He said that it had had a separate existence but that he could not ascertain the cause of death.
After hearing the evidence, the Coroner said that the only verdict that he could return was an open verdict, that being that the child was 'Found dead at the sewage works, and that there was no evidence to show the cause of death'.
