Patience Eliza Edkins

Age: 79

Sex: female

Date: 28 Nov 1963

Place: Barnes Hill, Weoley Castle, Birmingham

Patience Eliza Edkins was knocked down by a car that didn't stop.

She was hit by the car in Barnes Hill, Weoley Castle.

She was taken to Selly Oak Hospital where her condition was described as 'rather poorly'. She later died.

She had received injuries to her right arm and leg.

The car that hit her was said to have been a large black saloon and had been driving from the Harborne direction.

At her inquest on 27 November 1963, the Coroner said:

I think you can be satisfied that the woman was struck by a vehicle. If the driver knew he had struck the woman, you may think his conduct suspicious, if not despicable, in not stopping.

An open verdict was returned.

She had lived at 128 Mill Lane, California, Birmingham.

It was noted that on the day Patience Edkins was knocked over that another man was also hit by a car that didn't stop and he too was taken to Selly Oak Hospital, where his condition was described as 'satisfactory', having received concussion and abrasions.
