A man died after being assaulted in Launceston on the evening of Friday 24 September 2021.

It was thought he had been assaulted between the Newmarket Inn and Nicolls Tenements.

He was taken to hospital and treated for head injuries but died on Friday 1 October 2021.

A 55-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of assault but nothing more is known.

The police said:

The incident happened between 7pm and 8.15pm and officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV of the area to come forward. The white male victim may have been walking with the aid of a crutch or walking stick at the time. The man’s death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing. A 55-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody at this time.
