Richard Barry was attacked in the early hours of Sunday 18 November 1990 whilst on his way home from a party and died two days later at the Royal Free Hospital.
He had left a party in Belsize Park at about 3am on the Sunday and as he was along Rosslyn Hill towards Hampstead he was attacked. However, he afterwards managed to continue on to heath Street in Hampstead where he collapsed.
He had been hit about the head with a two foot long piece of wood.
Before he died, Richard Barrywas said to have given a confused account of what had happened, talking of three men attacking him, one of them being black. He also mentioned a Ford Cortina car, which was possibly blue. He also said that he had met a man outside a tube station who had demanded money.
Richard Barry had been wearing a distinctive fez type hat at the time, a dark bomber jacket and jeans.
Richard Barry had been from Llys Nedd in Bryncoch and had been studying for a PhD in statistics at London University College and would have qualified in a matter of months after which it was said he had planned to look for work overseas.
