Gurbax Kaur Sandhu

Age: 30

Sex: female

Date: 19 Oct 1993

Place: Randolph Road, Pear Tree, Derby

Gurbax Kaur Sandhu was found strangled at her home in Randolph Road, Derby on 19 October 1993.

She was suspected of having been involved with the death of her husband who died in a fire at the same property two years earlier. It was heard at his inquest that there had been uncertainty about whether he had killed himself or whether Gurbax Sandhu had set light to him.

Her sister-in-law was initially charged with her murder but the charge against her was later dropped after it was heard that there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute.

Following the decision by the CPR, a detective said:

The CPS decision does not preclude either those charges being re-instated, or further charges being made, should more evidence to substantiate them come to light. We are still following up various leads that we had at the time.

In a renewed appeal, the police said:

We are sure there is someone who can help us and we do need them to contact us.

The major of Derby later said:

The tragedy of this case is that somebody murdered this girl and they are still walking free.
