Corey Jacob Dobbe was stabbed by Holderness Drain near Waveney Road in Hull on 13 June 2021.
He was found near the drain just off Harleston Close.
His inquest returned a verdict that he was unlawfully killed.
Three people were arrested in relation to his murder, two of whom were arrested on charges of conspiracy to murder, however a primary suspect has not been traced.
Corey Dobbe had 17 wounds to his back, chest, spine and arms. He died at the scene as a result of three fatal stab wounds to his chest at about 7.50pm. He had received the injuries following a physical altercation.
The murder weapon wasn't found.
Corey Dobbe and the main suspect were not thought to have known each other, but had communicated over the social media platform SnapChat. They were said to have travelled together to Harleston Close in a Ford Focus car where they then had an argument. The car had reversed into Harleston Close and had been driven by a third person. During the argument the man tried to grab a bag that Corey Dobbe had, at which point the driver panicked and started driving forward and the man fell out with the bag. Corey Dobbe then got out of the car to get his bag back.
Corey Dobbe and the man then continued the confrontation and the man then pulled out a knife and threatened Corey Dobbe, forcing Corey Dobbe down along the road towards the drain where it was said he stabbed him.
The man was seen soon after in CCTV footage walking away from the scene.
The police said they were looking for the man, who they said might have crucial information, adding that they were not looking for anyone else. The man was last seen on 15 June 2021 and was known to have links to the Democratic Republic of Congo where he was born, however, he was a UK citizen, having come to the country when he was 6-years-old. He was last seen on 15 June 2021. However, it wasn't known whether he was still alive as his bank account had not been touched and he had not since been active on social media. Although there were 200 sightings of the suspect, only two were confirmed.
Corey Dobbe’s inquest was described as being unusual because it didn't name the suspect and had concluded on the balance of probabilities that he was unlawfully killed.
