Age: 60
Sex: male
Date: 14 Jul 1960
Place: White Hill, Banstead, Surrey
A man was found dead in a blazing car.
The police said that they could not rule out foul play.
The car had been an old Ford 8.
It was seen in flames a few yards down a bridle road by a motorist on White Hill.
The man was described as middle-aged.
The car had been on a remote cart-track that joined the main Brighton road to Chipstead about a mile beyond Mugswell.
It was noted that the lane from which the cart track led was popular with courting couples, especially those with cars. However, it was noted that a car could not stand on the track for some time before being noticed.
The police said, 'It is impossible at this stage to rule out foul play, and investigations are continuing. The man's identity has not yet been definitely established'.
Nothing more is known.
