Jeffrey McNish was stabbed to death at the Toxteth Caribbean Carnival on the night of 10 August 1985.
He had been stabbed through the liver.
Jeffrey McNish had been part of a group of people from London that had gone to Liverpool for the carnival. They had later gone to Toxteth Sports Centre where a disco was being held under the belief that it was free to get in, but the security staff there were charging £4 entry. There was then an argument and one of the group from London slashed a man across the face. It was said then that a group of people from the disco armed themselves and chased the group from London and that during the affray, Jeffrey McNish was murdered.
However, the police said that many people gave conflicting statements as to what happened. The police took 1,500 statements.
Four people were charged with affray, but only one of them was convicted.
