Jean Craig Lloyd was found dead in an attic room in a condemned tenement in Mid-Kirk Style, Dundee on the night of Saturday 8 September 1956.
She was found with a tablecloth wrapped round her neck and it was thought that she had been strangled. Her body was found fully clothed lying on a bed. The woman that found her body said that she had been unable to untie the knot and had called for help.
Her handbag was said to have been found over her arm but her purse was said to have been missing.
A 26-year-old farm labourer was charged with her murder but nothing more is known.
Jean Craig Lloyd had two children aged four and six although they had been living with their grandmother at the time. Her husband had been in Perth Prison at the time serving a prison sentence.
The tenement at Mid-Kirk Style was described as a condemned building in the centre of Dundee.
