Frank Jary Higgs was found dead in Northumberland Dock in North Shields on Wednesday 11 July 1956.
He had disappeared from his home on 29 June 1956 after going out for a short walk, saying that he would be back soon.
The medical evidence stated that he had been in the water for over a week.
Frank Higgs was a plater's helper and had lived in Chatton Street in East Howdon.
He was identified by his brother who had lived in St James Terrace, Percey Main by items of his clothing and from objects found on his body.
The Coroner recorded an open verdict of death by drowning, stating that there was no evidence to show how his body had come to be in the water.
