The body of a newly-born child was found in a litter bin in Coventry Street in Kidderminster.
Amongst the parcel that the child was found in the police found a red handkerchief with a French inscription on it and the police released a description of it appealing for anyone that recognised it to come forward.
The red handkerchief was described as being 10 1/2 inches by 11 inches, with a narrow white border and with a one-inch black stripe along one edge. In the top left-hand corner there was the silhouette of a girl's head and a flower, opposite which there was a scroll bearing the words, 'Votre beaute me desespere’, which translated into English as 'Your beauty drives me to despair'.
