The skeleton of a woman was found buried in the sands at Sewer Mill Cove in Marlborough.
The discovery was made by a man who had been staying at Sea Guest House in Sewer Mill Cove. It was covered by a shallow layer of soil.
The police said that they thought that they were at least 60 years old, if not 100 years old.
The skeleton was described as being practically complete. A doctor who examined it said that he thought that it belonged to a female aged about 20.
The inquest on Friday 19 June 1949 stated that the cause of death was unknown, and an open verdict was returned.
