Edgar Arthur Lewis was found dead on the Bristol Road near Claypits with his pedal-cycle on 16 December 1941.
He had lived in Middle Street in Eastington and had worked at Cam Mills.
He had left work that morning at 7.10am on his bicycle with the lights on it burning.
At about 7.20am a garage proprietor was told by a woman that there was a bicycle lying on the road with both its lights burning and when he went out to look he found Edgar Lewis lying beneath his bicycle which was pointing towards Gloucester and said that he formed the opinion that Edgar Lewis was dead.
