Eileen Grey Powell died following an abortion.
She was a spinster and had lived with her parents in Caerleon Road in Newport.
She had earlier made a confession to a doctor but when she became ill and the doctor called on her she told him that she was no longer in her previous condition and said that she had been taking Quinine.
The doctor said that he afterwards came to the conclusion that she was suffering from a condition of peritonitis and septic bronchial pneumonia resulting from a septic abortion and advised her removal to Woolston House.
An open verdict was returned at her inquest.
She had been a clerk in a local solicitor's office for the previous Fifteen years.
