George Westaway

Age: unknown

Sex: male

Date: 18 Aug 1912

Place: Manaccan

George Westaway was found dead after having been out drinking with some people.

He was last seen walking off with some men singing, after having left the New Inn in Manaccan.

He was found the following morning about 600 yards from Trewince Stile on the morning of 19 August 1912.

He had marks on his face and there was an indication that a struggle had taken place.

A man was then tried for his manslaughter.

However, his post-mortem stated that his death was due to fatty degeneration of his heart and it was heard that there were no finger marks or bruises on George Westaway's throat and that the marks on his face were consistent with him having fallen over a stile.

The foreman of the jury then stated that the jury could see nothing that connected the man with George Westaway's death and the judge then acquitted the man that was on trial.
