Place: Cubbington Wood, Leamington Rugby Road, Kenilworth
The body of a newly-born female child was found in the gateway leading into Cubbington Wood off of the Leamington to Rugby Road.
It was in a green carrier bag and found by a man that had been passing along the road. It was about four yards from the gate. When the man went closer to inspect the package he saw the baby's face exposed at the opening of the carrier bag.
Its body was wrapped up in newspaper and greaseproof paper.
A doctor that examined the child said that it had lived for a very short time. He said that its mouth was bruised and said that the condition of her lungs indicated that someone had killed it by placing a hand over its face to stop it breathing.
The Coroner returned a verdict of 'Infanticide against some person or persons unknown'.
