Vicky Glass was found dead on a moor on 3 November 2000 by a dog walker in a stream, six weeks after she disappeared after a night out.
She was last seen on 24 September 2000 in Middlesbrough town centre after celebrating her 21st birthday. The last known sighting of her was at about 4am on 24 September 2000 when she was dropped off by a taxi outside the Shipmate pub in Union Street, Middlesbrough. At some point she had been seen leaving a house with an unknown man in Princes Road, Middlesbrough, possibly before she was seen getting out of the taxi.
She had been wearing a white t-shirt, light grey trousers and white trainers. She was 5ft 3in tall and had a local Middlesbrough accent.
CCTV evidence later released in November 2022 showed Vicky Glass wearing light-coloured trousers, a light-coloured top, white trainers and a dark coloured puffer style jacket.
She was naked when she was found. The location was about twenty miles from Danby on the North York Moors near the A171 between Teesside and Whitby.
She had been working as a prostitute and was a heroin-addict.
In September 2000 a farmer was questioned over her murder.
In January 2002 a 47-year-old man was arrested in connection with her murder, but no one was charged. At the same time police also searched a number of properties around North Yorkshire.
On 24 September 2021 the police said that they were reinvestigating her murder following significant new lines of inquiry. It was said that the review planned to examine more than 2,000 hours of CCTV footage.
In November 2022 the police said that they were trying to trace a lorry driver who was known to have given her some money a few hours before she was last seen being dropped off by the taxi-driver. A friend of Vicky Glass said that Vicky Glass had left had some personal things with him and agreed to meet him later. The police described the lorry driver as:
The police noted that Vicky Glass didn't have access to a car and wasn't known to have had any connections with Danby, which was 20 miles away from where she was last seen.
