Roger Ormsby was found dead in a burning car in Whalley Range on 5 January 2000.

His BMW car was found on fire in an alley off of Milton Grove, Whalley Range on the night of Wednesday 5 January 2000.

He was found to have been shot in the back of the head. He had been sitting in the driver’s seat. The police said that they thought that he had been shot three times at very close range by a passenger in hte back seat of his red automatic BMW 320. The car was found parked with its engine running.

The police said that they beleived that the fire in his car only started after Roger Ormsby's foot slipped on to the accelerator, leaving the engine revving at maximum for up to half-an-hour after he had been shot.

He was described both as a wealthy businessman and as a drug dealer. The police said that they thought he had been murdered by members of a rival drugs gang.

A detective said:

We know what is going on on the streets of Manchester. Drugs are being dealt on the streets. It was not an ad hoc murder. Roger Ormsby lived an expensive lifestyle in the area.

The police added that they found a semi-automatic handgun close to the scene of the murder.

Two men and two girls were arrested on the night of 6 January 2000 in conncection with the murder, however, no one was charged.

Roger Ormsby had had three children.
