Joyce Butler died from opium poisoning.
She was found in a dying state in a hotel room that she had engaged the previous night.
A bottle of laudanum was found in her room.
She was a nurse and a single woman.
She had recently come up to London from Gloucestershire in August and had stayed with her brother in Hendon. Her brother said that she left her lodgings on 28 November 1906 in a depressed state with a cold. He said that she had seemed disappointed at not receiving a letter.
When she was found, all she had was 9 3/4d. Her brother said that he did not know whether she had come to the end of her resources.
An open verdict was returned.
