John Marzetti was shot as he was changing a tyre on his car in a car park in The Coppins.
He was a second-hand-car dealer and had been changing the wheel on his BMW in a car park near his home in New Addington.
He was shot several times at about 6.15pm.
Police said that a suspect had been seen earlier on and it was thought that he might have been waiting for John Marzetti. He was described as black, wearing a hooded top and to have been wearing dark clothing and a puffa jacket.
