Thomas Greedy was found dead in the River Tone.
He had lived at Higher Comeytrowe in Trull with his wife and five children.
His body was found on the Wednesday, 6 May 1903, in the River Tone near the French Weir Recreation Ground. His body was thought to have been in the river for at least a fortnight and was in an advanced state of decomposition.
He was last seen on 21 April 1903 when he went into Taunton to do some errands. He had spent the evening in a pub leaving around 10pm. When he was last seen he was said to have been quite capable of taking care of himself.
When his body was examined at the post-mortem, he was found to have a slight cut on his forehead along with considerable bruising around that area. The doctor said that the injuries occurred before he drowned and said that he was probably stunned before he went into the river.
His widow said that he was a very healthy man and that his way home from Taunton would not have taken him near the river.
