Private Elks was found dead on a railway just a few miles down from a station where he had got on a train.
He was a Private in the 19th Hussars and was on his way from Rugeley to Ireland.
He had been seen on the train on the Tuesday night but was not found on the railway line until the Thursday morning a few miles away from where he entrained.
When he was found his body was described as having been terribly injured.
It was heard at the Coroner's inquest that it would have been impossible for him to have lain on the railway for such time undiscovered.
An open verdict was returned.
