The body of a newly-born child was found in the River Aire near Goodman Wharfe.
It was thought to have been in the river for around three weeks.
The inquest returned a verdict of murder against some person or persons unknown.
In commenting of the lack of evidence as to whom the child belonged, the Coroner said:
I should very much like to find someone of whom we could make an example. The number of cases has become quite alarming.
