The body of a newly born child was found floating in a fish basket at Grimsby Alexandra Dock.

The body was found by a man working with a party of raftsmen working on some timber rafts at the docks. He saw a fish basket floating by and drew it aboard the raft he was working on.

He undid the string that fastened the lid and found a quantity of water-soaked packing around the dead body of a newly-born male child.
