Albert Birt was found beaten in the street and taken to hospital where he died.
He had been drinking at a village inn and was found the next day half frozen on the road with severe wounds on the back of his head, punctured lips and a black eye.
His watch and chain were missing.
He was taken to Stroud Hospital where he died.
