The body of a female child was found wrapped in newspaper and brown paper in an empty railway carriage at Waverley Station in Edinburgh.
It was found below the seat of a third class compartment by a cleaner with the North British Railway Company at 9am.
The train had arrived from Macmerry a few minutes before.
There were no marks of violence on its body.
