Emily Bamsey

Emily Bamsey vanished whilst out on a blackberrying expedition.

Emily Bamsey was from Plymouth and had been staying with her mother at her mother's sisters at Castle Cottages in Littleham.

She had left the house at about 11am on Saturday to go blackberry picking and was seen to go off in the direction of Budleigh Salterton. By 6pm she had not returned and her mother informed the police.

On the Sunday a search was made, including one by the Exmouth Volunteers who scoured the whole neighbourhood.

Nothing was known of what had happened to her and speculation included that she might have fallen into a pond or river, or fallen off of a cliff. Speculation also included her being kidnapped by someone in a strange car.

She had dark brown curly hair, a full fresh face and was well built. She had been wearing a blue serge dress, a pink blouse, black boots and stockings and had been carrying a brown waterproof cape with a hood and an enamelled cup.

She wasn't a stranger to Littleham as both her parents were natives.
