Elsie May Rodway died from an internal puncture wound that had caused peritonitis.
It was not known how the puncture had been caused.
She had had apartments at 345 Albert Road in Aston and had been engaged in the chorus of a Birmingham Pantomime. She left Birmingham in March 1913 but returned for visits and in November 1913 returned to stay in Calthorpe Road under the name of Mrs Britten. A month later she returned to Albert Road when she became ill and was then removed to the General Hospital.
At the hospital an operation was performed but she didn't improve and soon died.
A theatrical companion of Elsie Rodway said that they had stayed together in Brixton for 3 weeks and had then gone on to Calthorpe Road. She said that in December 1913 Elsie Rodway complained of being ill.
