Thomas Donachie died from a head wound that could not have been self-inflicted.
He went gone to his son’s house on Albany Street in Southwick at 2am on 25 December 1910 after being attacked. His son said that he fetched him upstairs saying that he could not help himself and that he had blood on his face and a wound on his forehead.
Thomas Donachie said that he had been attacked by two men on the Southwick side of the West End Bridge who tried to take a bit of meat that he had been carrying.
The son said that his father had a sup of beer at his house and then he walked with him to Bond Street and left him to cross Wearmouth Bridge and go home.
Thomas Donachie later got back home to his place in Hillfield Terrace but later died at about 4am.
