Colin Munro was found drowned in the River Thames near the Old Swan Pier on 24 August 1904.
He had been a tea merchant and had been living at 130 Akerman Road in Brixton. Just before 10pm on the Friday 19 August 1904 he had left his business premises in South Lambeth for a business appointment in Clapham after which nothing more was heard from him. It was noted that he had apparently not kept the business appointment.
On the Wednesday 24 August 1904 he was found in the River Thames fully dressed near the Old Swan Pier.
He was found by a police constable who was on duty in a police boat by the pier floating in the river.
It was stated that he had no business troubles. His brother said that when he last saw him he had been in good health and spirits.
Medical evidence stated that his death was due to suffocation from drowning and that the post mortem pointed to the fact that he had died quickly without a struggle.
An open verdict of found drowned was returned with the jury noting that there was not enough evidence to show how he got into the water.
