A baby was found in a paper bag at the Ladysmill Cricket Ground in Dunfermline.
The child had been placed in a 14lb brown paper bag, the mouth of which was tied with a piece of cord.
The local sanitary authorities had asked people to tied their waste paper into bundles to make its collection easier.
However, the parcel had been overlooked and was left until a Corporation servant from the refuse depot found it in the vicinity of the Ladysmill Cricket Ground.
It was thought that the child had been born healthy but could not have lived for more than a day or two and had died from suffocation.
