Enrico Sidoli died after being held under the water at Parliament Hill Lido in Hampstead.
He had been attacked on 8 July 1976 and died 11 days later in hospital.
He was said to have been involved in an argument with a group of boys.
The Metropolitan Police later released a picture of a person that they wanted to speak to.
