Ernest Wilson was assaulted at a bus stop and later died after staggering back to his room.
He had been staying at the St Mungo's hostel at the time.
He was said to have been assaulted by two black men at about 11pm on 1 April 2003.
An ambulance was called, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The first man was described as being aged between 20-25 and having a stocky build and was of medium height.
The second man was described as slim and had been wearing a green hooded coat.
