Arif Khan

Age: 28

Sex: male

Date: 9 May 1986

Place: Barrys Garage, Coneygre Road, Tipton

Arif Khan was tortured to death and his body dumped in a car park in Tipton.

His body was found in a car park in the rear yard of Barry's Repair Garage in Coneygre Street, Tipton on 9 May 1986.

He had more than a dozen electrical torture burns on his body.

It was thought that he had been murdered on the night of 9 May 1986. However, the police said that they didn't know where he had been before he was dumped in the car park. They said they also didn't know what sort of instrument had been used to inflict his burns.

It was noted that he had had a ladies patterned scarf loosely tied round his neck and there was lipstick and perfume on his body. However, the police said that they thought that they had been planted. A detective said:

Our suspicions are that those items were deliberately planted to make us believe he had a girlfriend and the scarf, perfume and lipstick were presents for her. However, we are keeping an open mind on the motive because we have no evidence at all of a girlfriend and no reason to believe he was anything other than a hard-working, dedicated family man.

He had been stripped to the waist before an electrical instrument, possibly jump leads from a car battery, were applied to his body and his shirt and jacket were then put back on afterwards.

However, they said that they were intrigued by the absence of any signs of a struggle, as there were no marks indicating that he had been held whilst the wires were applied to his body.

Arif Khan had worked at Sandwell Castings in West Bromwich and was last seen about 9pm on 9 May 1986 after telling his wife that he was going out briefly on business.

His body, minus his shoes, which were alongside him, was found about ten hours later by a mechanic.
