Malcolm Cole was beaten to death after leaving the Hand in Marigold pub in Bermondsey Street, Southwark.
He was attacked at about 11pm on Tuesday 2 July 1991.
He died from traumatic head injuries.
The police said that they were still trying to trace his movements, stating that they knew that he had been drinking in the Hand in Marigold pub earlier on in the night, leaving at 11pm but were trying to find out what he did after.
He was a carpenter from West Hartlepool and had been living at that time in Pages Walk, Southwark.
